Project brief:
This is my own personal project that I have been working on over the year which is heavily inspired by Star Wars and Prometheus. I wanted to explore how Massive scale space shots were created in movies and gaining a deeper understanding of the VFX pipeline in general.
Breakdown
Fully procedural asteroids by adding noise to get a rocky texture then scattering small spheres and using subtract boolean to cut out impact craters.
To create the asteroid belt I scattered points along a tube like object and copying the asteroids to the points
Clouds were made using Houdini 20 and utilizing there cloud shape generator and other cloud based nodes. I was going for a rough stormy looking cloud that would be scattered across the planet
This project is heavily compositing focused, using cards and 3D nodes in nuke to create the illusion of a 3D space. Elements such as the clouds and the background planets were fully rendered from Houdini and comped in.
